Another Melbourne Bite- Yarra Valley

6ba1d9d9172d127d08bd134575c00fff A mere 2 hours drive from Melbourne CBD, you will find the Yarra Valley, a beautiful wine district- the perfect place to enjoy a Melbourne Bite.

We had the pleasure of enjoying one nights accommodation at the Balgownie Estate Vineyard Resort & Spa, where we enjoyed only a few of the MANY features of this resort.

Whilst our time was limited, we ventured around the Yarra Valley instead of staying at the Resort only. This prevented us from taking advantage of ALL the spa treatments on offer, or having a dip in the hot pool, or jumping on the segway to ride through the vines or playing with the giant chess set on the grounds……………. but after we returned from the adventure in the afternoon, we did find time to partake in a full wine tasting and purchase a few bottles to take home with us.

We were given generous samples of all the wines on offer- from the sparkling bubbly whites, through the Rose’ wines to the rich full bodied red Cab Savs, and we enjoyed  a generous discount for hotel patrons.

Whilst wine was the order of the day, chocolate came a very close second. Viewed from the room, on top of the hill nearby, stood the Chocolaterie and ice creamery.

Walls of chocolate, 1 kilo blocks of chocolate, yard sticks of chocolate, hot chocolates and coffees, 20 flavours of gelati and big bowls of milk, dark and white chocolate samples- just help yourself with a spoon till you can’t eat anymore. HEAVEN!!!

After a drive around the Valley, we headed out to Google’s top recommendation for dinner in the Yarra valley- Dixons Creek Cafe Bar & Grill.  The best bangers and mash i have had in a LONG time, and hubby really enjoyed his steak with pepper sauce and both of us enjoyed the finest glasses of wine in the district, of course- Yarra Valley wines.

Then we returned at the end of the day, to enjoy the free movies that were playing on the TV.

The morning late checkout meant that we could enjoy a bit of a sleep in, a leisurely breakfast in the Resorts Restaurant with the best seats in the house- right next to the open fire, enjoying a full breakfast with complimentary newspapers.

After we handed the keys back to reception, we headed off in the car to visit another of the local wineries, a small boutique winery that came highly recommended by our son and his girlfriend….

The Yarra Valley is such a beautiful place to spend time. We highly recommend a COUPLE of days to stop and enjoy this stunning place in Melbourne to its fullest. We plan to go back another time to take advantage of more wine, more spa and more good food.
